Public footpaths. Public bridleway. Public byways. A piece of land (in England or Wales) that the public have a legally protected right to access at anytime. The UK government has an entire website section dedicated to the subject. Many of these paths are hundreds of years old and cover thousands of miles.

I love to explore these public right of ways whenever I get the chance. On my way home from Sussex last week, I briefly explored one. It had just rained. The forest smelled clean and fresh. The only noise I heard was from a passing sparrow. Magical.

digbeth, birmingham - june 2019

Rain, rain go away. Come again another day.

Rain, rain go away. Come again another day.

My goal?: Explore a bit more of Birmingham. Specifically, the old Bird’s Custard Factory which is located in Digbeth. The result: Due to weather conditions, expectations had to be lowered.

That said, I did manage a good walk around of city centre. And hey… It just gives me another reason to do it all over again. #DeliberatePractice

Victoria Square

Victoria Square is a pedestrianised public square in Birmingham, England. The square is often considered to be the centre of Birmingham, and is the point from where local road sign distances are measured. The square was formerly known as Council House Square, and had a tramway running through it. It was renamed on 10 January 1901, to honour Queen Victoria.

Digbeth

It was a lovely overcast day until it wasn’t. The heavens opened with a fierce and torrential downpour. Not ideal. After a while, I had to put away my SLR. The whole reason for making the journey to Digbeth was dampened. Instead, I used my iPhone and decided to make the best out of a very wet situation.
